RSA - Your Reliable Partner in Road Safety.
Welcome to RSA, where our commitment to road safety is unwavering. As a passionate team of advocates, experts, and changemakers, we are dedicated to creating safer roads and fostering a culture of responsible driving.
At RSA, our mission is clear: to significantly reduce road accidents, injuries, and fatalities through proactive initiatives, education, and community engagement. We believe that every individual has the right to travel safely, and we work tirelessly to make this vision a reality.
We are driven by the belief that every life matters, and every journey should end safely. Whether through innovative campaigns, policy advocacy, or collaboration with stakeholders, we aim to transform the way people perceive and practice road safety.
Our Mission Statement
The biggest achievement in road safety would likely be a significant reduction in road accidents, injuries, and fatalities on a global scale. This achievement would result from comprehensive and sustained efforts that address various aspects of road safety. Road safety is not limited to motorized vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists, too, play a crucial role. By using crosswalks, wearing reflective gear, and adhering to safety guidelines, we create a harmonious coexistence on our roads.
Let us be the champions of road safety. Let us make a conscious choice to prioritize responsible behavior, to be vigilant, and to embrace a culture of safety. By doing so, we not only protect our own lives but also contribute to the well-being of our communities and future generations.
Thank you, and let’s all take the pledge for safer roads.
Spread the Word, Save Lives.
Our roads connect us, providing the pathways for our daily journeys and adventures. Yet, with this connectivity comes the responsibility to ensure that these roads are safe for everyone who travels upon them.
The statistics can be sobering. Every day, lives are affected by road accidents, injuries, and, tragically, fatalities. However, behind these numbers are real people—our friends, family, colleagues, and fellow citizens. It is imperative that we recognize the profound impact unsafe practices on the road can have on individuals and communities alike.
Road safety is not a mere set of rules; it is a shared commitment to preserving life and well-being. Each time we step into a vehicle, embark on a bike ride, or even take a walk, we hold the key to our safety and the safety of those around us. Seat belts, helmets, and adherence to traffic rules are not inconveniences but rather instruments of protection.
What the facts tell us?
Worldwide, road traffic crashes claim the lives of 1.35 million people every year. More people die from road traffic injuries than from HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and diarrheal diseases. Fatal road traffic crashes are preventable. According to the latest WHO report more than two deaths occurring per minute and over 3200 per day, road traffic crashes remain the leading killer of children and youth aged 5–29 years. The latest WHO global status report on road safety 2023 shows that road crashes remain a persistent global health crisis, with pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users facing an acute and rising risk of death.
“The tragic tally of road crash deaths is heading in the right direction, downwards, but nowhere near fast enough,” says WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “The carnage on our roads is preventable. We call on all countries to put people rather than cars at the centre of their transport systems, and ensuring the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users.”
The report shows that 28% of global road traffic deaths occurred in the WHO South-East Asia Region, 25% in the Western Pacific Region, 19% in the African Region, 12% in the Region of the Americas, 11% in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and 5% in the European Region. Nine in 10 deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, and fatalities in these countries are disproportionately higher when set against the number of vehicles and roads they have. The risk of death is three times higher in low-income than high-income countries, yet low-income countries have just 1% of the world’s motor vehicles.
Fifty-three per cent of all road traffic fatalities are vulnerable road users including: pedestrians (23%); riders of powered two- and three-wheelers such as motorcycles (21%); cyclists (6%); and users of micro-mobility devices such as e-scooters (3%). Deaths among car and other 4-wheeled light vehicle occupants fell slightly to 30% of global fatalities. Pedestrian deaths rose 3% to 274 000 between 2010 and 2021, accounting for 23% of global fatalities. Deaths among cyclists rose by nearly 20% to 71 000, accounting for 6% of global deaths. Meanwhile, research indicates that 80% of the world’s roads fail to meet pedestrian safety standards and just 0.2% have cycle lanes, leaving these road users dangerously exposed. And while 9 in 10 people surveyed identify as pedestrians, just a quarter of countries have policies to promote walking, cycling and public transport.
UN's first system-wide Road Safety Strategy.
UN’s first system-wide Road Safety Strategy provides us with a single, holistic road safety management approach that helps us to manage the interaction between speed, vehicles, road-user behavior and road infrastructure to prevent crashes from resulting in serious human injury. UN’s Road Safety strategy is based on the five pillars described below and we follow the same as our guideline: –
Why Road Safety Matters?
Road safety matters for a multitude of reasons, as it significantly impacts individuals, communities, and societies as a whole. The most fundamental reason for prioritizing road safety is the preservation of human lives.
Road safety is integral to achieving global development goals, including those related to health, sustainable cities, and reduced inequalities. Many international organizations recognize road safety as a critical component of sustainable development.
Know Your Responsibilities.
Road safety is a shared responsibility that involves all road users, including drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Each group plays a crucial role in creating a safe and efficient transportation environment.
By understanding and adhering to these responsibilities, all road users contribute to a safer and more harmonious transportation system. Education, awareness, and mutual respect are key elements in promoting road safety.
Stay Alert, Stay Alive.
Distracted driving is a major contributor to road accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Common distractions while driving can lead to impaired concentration and delayed reaction times, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.
Drivers should recognize the risks associated with distractions. Staying focused on the road, and practicing defensive driving are crucial steps in preventing accidents and ensuring road safety.
